Award Process & Timeline

Districts may choose to use the TAND application for both the district and state applications for awards. This allows applicants to only complete one application. Please follow the instructions below

District Applications
  • View the list of awards below. Complete the application for the appropriate award. 
  • Letters of recommendation should be submitted directly to TAND by the person supplying the reference. See application page for more details.
  • Your application and all supporting documents must be submitted by Nov. 15, 2017.
  • Notify members about the Nov. 15, 2017 deadline and provide them with a link to this webpage.
  • Generate excitement: Request that your district members nominate their peers, and let members know that applicants can be self-nominated, too. Send the applicantion links to nominees and those who espress interest in self-nomination.
  • After the deadline, score applications forwarded to you by Brian Caroll.
TAND Applications
  • Your district submission will be used for your TAND application if you are nominated for a TAND award by your district. You don't need to re-complete the application.
  • Email Brian Caroll by Dec. 15, 2017 to tell him which applicants are being nominated for TAND awards.

District Applications
  • Follow your district's applicant instructions and timeline.
  • Follow your district's process for award nominations and applications.
  • TAND Recommends the following timeline so that your district awards are scored in time for your awardees to be eligible to apply for TAND awards:
    • Nov. 15, 2017 - District Awards Due
    • Dec. 15, 2017 - District Awards Scored
    • Dec. 15, 2017 - District Awardees Notified: Supply them with a link to this webpage and inform them that they will need to complete the online form to be eligible for the TAND award.
TAND Applications

After you have been nominated by your district for a TAND award:

  • View the list of awards below. Complete the application for the appropriate award. 
  • Letters of recommendation should be submitted directly to TAND by the person supplying the reference. See application page for more details.
  • Your application and all supporting documents must be submitted by Jan. 28, 2017 (ODEA Due Dec. 31, 2017).
  • Email Brian Caroll by Dec. 15, 2017 to tell him which applicants are being nominated for TAND Academy Professional Awards.

 

TAND Award Eligibility

The TN Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics uses the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics award guidelines to establish eligibility for Award selection. Please refer to the specific criteria for each Award to determine eligibility. A complete listing of Award criteria can be found at http://www.eatright.org.

General Requirements

Outstanding Dietetic  Educator Award (ODEA)

Must be a member of the Academy; faculty with academic or supervised proactice appointments or preceptors in ACEND-accredited dietetics education program; demonstrate innovative teaching skills and techniques, demonstrate mentoring as documented by letters from students, and demonstrate leadership in the profession.

Completed typed data sheet, resume, and 3 letters of recommendation, including 1 from a student. Provide the name, email, phone number, and affiliation to the nominee in each of the 3 letters of recommendation.

Outstanding Dietetic Student Award (ODSA)

Must be a member of Academy (by January of the year in which the award is received), enrolled in ACEND-accredited dietetics education program, demonstrate academic achievement as documented by letters from program faculty or preceptors, and demonstrate leadership and professional potential.

Recognized Dietetic Technician of the Year Award  (RDTY)

Member in the Academy; is a Dietetic Technician, Registered; Active participation in national, affiliate, or district association. Not previously selected for this award. Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the population; Demonstrated leadership, e.g., legislation, research, education, clinical dietetics, food service management, public relations, career guidance, etc., in the association or employment.

Outstanding Dietitian of the Year Award (ODY)

Member of the Academy, active participant in the national, affiliate, and district association, not have previously received the award; demonstrate concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutrition status of the population, and demonstrate leadership in the association or employment, minimum of 35 years old AND worked a minimum of 10 years as RDN.

Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year Award (RYDY)

Must be 35 years of age or younger as of May 1: member of the Academy; active participant in national, affiliate, or district association, not have previously received this award; demonstrate concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutrition status of the population; is a Registered Dietitian; and demonstrate leadership in the association or employment.

Emerging Dietetic Leader Award (EDL)

Must have been in practice for greater than 5 years and less than ten years.  Must be a member of the Academy; active participant in the national, affiliate, or district association for at least 5 years; not have previously received the EDL Award; demonstrate concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutrition status of the population; and demonstrate leadership in the association, community or employment.

Iris Award

The annual IRIS Award is given to an individual who has contributed significantly to the field of dietetics and/or specifically TN Academy. 

 

Must NOT be an RD or member of The Academy/TN Academy, must be known to Dietetics throughout the area, and must contribute to nutrition in one of the following ways:
a) promotes the advancement of the field of nutrition through scientific knowledge or technical skills
b) demonstrates goodwill through notable service in furthering the advancement of dietetics and promotes its high standards through resources, time, financial or personal support
c) furthers the cultural growth of dietetics
d) contributes to the public awareness of dietetics.

Applications for the Iris Award should include contact information, a resume, and 3 letters of recommendation from the nominating individuals.

Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Awards

TN Academy members are encouraged to nominate colleagues for the Academy's professional practice awards. These include: Cooper, Copher, Medallion, Honorary Member, and ADAF Awards for Excellence in Practice.
