2011-2012 TDA Awards

Award Eligibility - TDA or ADA award eligibility begins with ADA and TDA district memberships as well as verification of a state license to practice and other requirements specific to the award.

Award Process- All district submissions should first go to your district awards chair to be forwarded collectively to the TDA awards chair and committee according to the guidelines.  Electronic submissions are permissible, however please write-protect your document to ensure original and accurate data.

Outstanding Dietetic  Educator Award (ODEA)

Must be a member of ADA, faculty with or preceptor in a CADE accredited and approved dietetics education program, demonstrate innovative teaching skills and techniques, demonstrate mentoring as documented by letters from students, and demonstrate leadership in the profession.

Outstanding Dietetic Student Award (ODSA)

Must be a member of ADA (by January of the year in which the award is received), enrolled in a CADE accredited program, demonstrate academic achievement documented by letters from professors or preceptors, and demonstrate leadership and professional potential.

Recognized Dietetic Technician of the Year Award  (RDTY)

Active Membership in the American Dietetic Association. Is a Dietetic Technician, Registered. Active participation in national, state affiliate, or district association. Not previously selected for this award. Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the population. Demonstrated leadership, e.g., legislation, research, education, clinical dietetics, food service management, public relations, career guidance, etc., in the Association or employment.

Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year Award (RYDY)

Must be 35 years of age or less, a member of ADA, and active participant in the national, state affiliate, or district Association, not have previously received the award, demonstrate concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutrition status of the population, and demonstrate leadership in the Association or employment.

Emerging Dietetic Leader Award (EDL)

Must have been in practice for greater than 5 years and less than ten years.  Must be a member of ADA, and active participant in the national, state affiliate, or district Association, not have previously received the RYDY Award, demonstrate concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutrition status of the population, and demonstrate leadership in the Association or in employment.

Iris Award

The annual IRIS Award is given to an individual who has contributed significantly to the field of dietetics and/or specifically TDA. 

 

Must NOT be an RD or member of ADA/TDA, must be known to Dietetics throughout the area, and must contribute to nutrition in one of the following ways:
a) promotes the advancement of the field of nutrition through scientific knowledge or 
    technical skills
b) demonstrates goodwill through notable service in furthering the advancement of dietetics
    and promotes its high standards through resources, time, financial or personal support
c) furthers the cultural growth of dietetics
d) contributes to the public awareness of dietetics.

Applications for the Iris Award should include contact information, a resume, and 3 letters of reference from the nominating individuals.

ADA Awards

TDA members are encouraged to nominate colleagues for ADA professional practice awards. These include: Cooper, Copher, Medallion, Honorary Member, and ADAF Awards for Excellence in Practice.

Scholarships
Scholarships: General Information

TDA awards scholarships to outstanding dietetic students who reside in Tennessee. The purpose of the TDA Scholarship Award is to recognize dietetics students who demonstrate outstanding scholastic ability and professional potential. Applicants are judged on grade point average; ability to follow directions, organize information, and complete the application; writing skills; references; participation and leadership in professional activities; having a well-rounded lifestyle (i.e., involvement in part-time jobs, volunteerism, and extracurricular activities); and, when present, a financial need.

 

For the 2010-2011 school year 3 TDA scholarships in the amount of $500.00 each will be given. Application requirements include:

1. Completed application form
2. Official transcript
3. Personal letter indicating professional goals
4. Letter from academic advisor
5. Letter from registered dietitian who has supervised a clinical or field training experience of the student
6. Include all information in one packet.
7. Applications must be postmarked by February 2, 2011.

Scholarships are awarded annually during the spring TDA meeting.
